5 Ways To Beat The Heat This Summer

5 Ways To Beat The Heat This Summer

It’s tempting to stay at home all day when there’s a scorching heat wave outside your door, but I’ve compiled some cool (pun intended!) summer activities in the area that won’t have you cursing the heat:

1.  Splash Down Waterpark – Manassas, VA

Splash Down is Northern Virginia’s largest waterpark with 13 acres of fun waterslides, a lazy river, and pools for all ages and interests! A must-do summertime activity that is great for the whole family or your child’s next birthday party. The best part? No sunburn worries here!

2.  Smithsonian Museums Washington, DC & Northern Virginia

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum and research complex, and the vast majority of its museum portfolio is located right here in DC. A quick, air conditioned metro-ride away, and you and your family are sure to be wowed by the popular Air and Space, Natural History, and American History museums along with the many other exhibits the Smithsonian has to offer—all for free and indoors!

3.  AMC Lowes Georgetown 14 Movie Theatre & Hershey’s Ice Cream– Washington, DC

In the summer, nothing beats a cold, dark movie theater , except maybe an ice cream cone! The Georgetown AMC movie theatre is right on the Waterfront Park and conveniently located next to a Hershey’s Ice Cream shop that features a wide range of ice cream and smoothie flavors. Have an amazing afternoon playing in the fountains across the street, cooling off with ice cream, and then enjoying one of those summer blockbusters you’ve been dying to see!

4.  National Aquarium Baltimore, MD

The National Aquarium in Baltimore is home to over 20,000 amazing animal and fish species that are well worth the tript! This world renowned aquarium features many extensive exhibits, including the Living Seashore where you can touch different sea creatures like moon snails and jellyfish. An engaging and interactive outing for all ages, the National Aquarium is a great way to enjoy your day away from the sun.

5.  Bureau of Engraving and Printing   Washington, DC

Ever wonder how money is made? Take a trip to the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing and find out! A fun an educational outing, visitors have the the opportunity to watch currency being made right in front of you. Tickets are first-come, first-served every morning starting at 8 AM, so be sure to rise and shine for this AC-friendly way to delve into one of the many unique experiences D.C. has to offer.
